History

Rockwood's early history dates to the late 1700s when the land where it sits was first claimed by Moses Rambo, but it wasn't until 1857 that Phillip Wolfersburger had a formal town plan created. The community celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2007. To learn more, click here.

Photo Tours

Rockwood is pleased to be a partner in the Trail Town Program, an economic development initiative along the Great Allegheny Passage.

Currently, the Trail Town Public Art Program is seeking artist proposals for public art installations in Trail Towns along the Great Allegheny Passage. The program will unveil each piece on "Celebration Saturday" (September 27) in conjunction with the Pittsburgh 250 Celebration. Committees in West Newton, Connellsville, Ohiopyle, Confluence, Rockwood and Meyersdale are working to determine location and message under the regional theme "Cycle of Renewal." The Trail Town Public Art Program is supported in part by Pittsburgh 250 Community Connections and the Sprout Fund. Please contact the Trail Town's Public Arts Coordinator, Christina Lee, at (724) 562-9607 for more information.
