Train-Watching

For avid railroad buffs, nothing makes their heart beat faster than the sound of an approaching train. Rockwood offers numerous opportunies each day to enjoy the sights and sounds of Amtrak and CSX trains passing through town on the double tracks that originally earned Rockwood the title of "Railroad Center of Somerset County." Park at the Rockwood Mill Shoppes and Opera House for a close-up view of all the action.

Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-country skiers are discovering one of the better-kept secrets of their sport: The Great Allegheny Passage. This nearly-level hiking/biking trail becomes a favorite route for cross-country skiers when Mother Nature turns the trail into a scenic winter wonderland. Parking is available at the Rockwood Trailhead.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is permitted on the grassy areas of the Great Allegheny Passage in selected areas, including the 6-mile stretch between the Rockwood Trailhead and Garrett. Parking is available at the Rockwood Trailhead.
